Club members come from all walks of life and encompass a wide range of ages. Whereas a large number of members hold a current Amateur Radio Certificate this is certainly not true of all Club members. Dewi Roberts (GW0ABL), ably assisted by a number of Club members provide tuition for those interested in obtaining the relevant qualification leading to an amateur call sign.
Club meetings are held twice monthly on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month, commencing 7.30pm for 8.00pm. The meetings start off quite informally with members socialising generally, followed by a talk/demonstration or general discussion on radio related matters given by either one of the Club members or a visiting "expert" (see copy of the latest programme). Visits are sometimes arranged to places of interest. Club members were recently taken on a guided tour of local BBC/ITV Broadcast stations. We have also visited 22 Squadron at RAF Valley and a number of other interesting venues. The evening finishes off with tea/coffee and biscuits and more general chat.
The Club has it’s own equipment comprising amateur transceivers, towers, antennas, generators etc. and these are used regularly at special event stations. For these events the Club is allocated a special call sign and members set up a station at a particular location. This work is co-ordinated by a Station Manager appointed by the Club. One of our regular yearly "events" take place from the site of the old Marconi long wave transmitting station at Waunfawr near Caernarfon. The Club recently took part in the Maritime Coastal Radio Station Event commemorating the service provided by Maritime Coastal Radio Stations throughout the world. Our station was operated from the Club's caravan at the old Anglesey Radio (GLV) site, using the call sign GB0GLV.
Special cards (QSL or verification cards) are printed and exchanged with the stations we contact at these events and this work is handled by the Club’s own QSL Manager. The Club also has it’s own call sign and individual QSL card.
Visitors are always welcome at Club meetings. For
further information including Club Membership forms, please contact the Club
Secretary, (see above).
At a recent meeting of the Club it was decided to stop sending out complimentary copies of the Newsletter but instead to put the latest edition on the Club's web pages.
