In

CELEBRATION

of the

FIRST WIRELESS TELEGRAM

sent from

UNITED KINGDOM TO AUSTRALIA

88 years ago on the 22nd September 1918

The Dragon Amateur Radio Club

of

 Llanfairpwll, Anglesey.

will be operating

GB2VK

This event takes place annually from the site of the original

Long Wave Transmitting Station at Waunfawr, Nr Caernarfon.

It is expected that contact will be made with several amateur radio stations in Australia, during the early morning of September 22nd.  Members of the Dragon ARC will operate their club equipment -  a Yaesu FT990 transceiver with balun fed ribbon feeder, driving a 160ft doublet antenna.  The station will operate from the site of the old Long Wave Transmitting Station at Waunfawr from where the first telegram was sent, 88 years ago on 18th September 1918.  The receiving station was operated by Mr E. T. Fisk for the Marconi Company’s Amalgamated Wireless at Wahroonga New South Wales.

It is hoped that many other amateur radio stations around the world will also join in this celebration, by making contact with GB2VK or the stations operating from the Australian continent i.e. VK2WAH etc.

The Station Manger on this occasion will be Martin GW3PRL who can be contacted at:-  martinsnow1943athotmail.com

(please replace the 'at' with '@' - helps keep the junk mail to a minimum!!!)
